The story behind "Other Goose Pilot"
Many years ago, before ever getting my first flying job, I was attending an Exhibition event called "Design for Living" in Cape Town, South Africa with my eldest son and a good friend when we came across a stall manned by the owner of a local Computer Business. The name of the owner was Peter.
Peter spotted me walking past his stall wearing a jacking with loads of flying badges and struck up a conversation with us. It turned out that Peter was also passionate about flying and also wanted to be a pilot someday. We had a long chat and decided to exchange contact details and we’ve stayed in touch ever since! A few years after first meeting Peter, he came up with an awesome idea for a project which entailed flying a sea plane called a Grumman Goose from the waters close to Brooklyn, New York - USA, all the way across to the waters close to “Brooklyn, Cape Town - South Africa. Peter asked me if I’d like to accompany him flying from New York to Cape Town and I of course naturally said YES!! Peter was planning to find a corporate sponsor for the project and to run the project as a day-to-day blogging type adventure with loads of great ideas for along the way over. The project had great and exciting potential. Peter decided that his name (handle) for the project was going to be GoosePilot and I chose to be OtherGoosePilot! And that's where the name originated .
Unfortunately, despite Peter’s tireless efforts to try and find a sponsor for his project, that he called Goose Adventures, a sponsor sadly never materialized. I was gutted that this adventure never happened but it pales in comparison to how gutted Peter was that it never happened!
If you would like to learn more about this project, then why not head over to my dedicated page to Peter's project Goose Adventures where you will find a copy of the proposal document that Peter put together to present to a hopeful Sponsor!
